A sweet journey back in time
Service Description
Steam through history in sugar cane style! In 1999 Waioli and Nuhou Corporation acquired a mile long section of the original Lihue Plantation railroad right-of-way across from the original Lihue mill site. Kaipu is Grove Farm Plantation's 100 year old steam locomotive that ran sugar cane on the west side for Hawaiian Sugar Company for 20 years until it was purchased in 1945 by Grove Farm Plantation on the east side. With the invention of steam, tons of sugar cane could be transported from field to mill and trains were all over the island! This is a memorable experience for anyone and an invaluable learning experience for history buffs, train lovers and students to comprehend science and industry, where the scale, smell, sound and use of steam fill one's senses with awe and inspiration! Enjoy Kauai’s steam locomotive history with a $10 donation to help preserve this experience. As Waioli & Nuhou Corporations continue to reimagine its Locomotive Learning Park for all to enjoy-Mahalo for keeping steam alive!
